Lakshmi is a 2009 Kannada film directed by Nagathihalli Chandrashekar.The movie was a remake of hit Tamil film Mouna Guru. Veteran actress Lakshmi appears in a cameo appearance which has been widely appreciated. The movie is the second remaking of the Tamil blockbuster, where Lakshmi played lead role in original version. The film is ready to be remade in Hindi as "Maa Shanti" starring Rekha, Raima Sen and Deepshika Singh.The story is set in Bangalore, where Lakshmi (Darshan), the only child of Chandrashekhar (Siddarth), who runs a business making pickles, marmalades and jams. She falls in love with an Englishman (Bobby) after she comes to know that he was to marry another girl. This does not go down well with her father who agrees to the match only after he travels abroad and talks Bobby into getting married to his daughter.

The music of the film was composed by V. Manohar and released on Yashwant Sagar (S) Records. Following is the list of musicians:Lakshmi opened to mixed reviews from critics. Filmfare gave it a 2 star rating saying" ‘Lakshmi’ has the look and feel of a Marathi film, particularly ‘Sairat’ (the Kannada remake of Bollywood hit ‘Mardaani’) but it's a different to watch". Deccan Chronicle gave a positive review, saying that "Lakshmi is very well-made family entertainer that won't disappoint you" and that "Mohan Raja impresses as a director". "Bangalore Mirror" gave a positive review, saying "Siddarths performance has everything. He has played his part with such perfection that the audience will applaud him even for his good looks and youthful looks" and that "Darshan and Ravi Sarja steal the show with their great onscreen chemistry". "IndiaGlitz.com" gave a positive review, saying that "Darshan has done a fine job and he is awesome in the role of an ambitious and nervous father", but that "Lakshmi is an average film".The movie had good performances from Darshan, Ravi Sareen, Mihika(as Lakshmi's guru) and Rajkumar (as Bobby). The movie was one of the films chosen for Film Federation of India's National Awards 2011.Director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar has claimed that Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Ila Arun and Subash Ghai would be providing their voice-overs for this film. Om Puri is reported to have rejected the offer due to other commitments.

The film had a poor run at the box office because of bad marketing strategies by Mohan Raja. The movie was made on a low budget but was recouped later due to good DVD sales.
